The Programme….

The Leconfield Singers and English Philharmonia are delighted to be performing The Creation, an oratorio written between 1797 and 1798 by Joseph Haydn in Chichester Cathedral.  Inspired by Handel’s work encountered in London and considered by many to be his masterpiece, the oratorio depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as described in the Book of Genesis, expressed in some of the most lovable and life-affirming music ever composed.

As always, The Leconfield Singers are delighted to be conducted by their Musical Director Graham Wili, and accompanied by English Philharmonia orchestra.

Ticket prices range from £10 – £25

£5 discount for tickets bought in advance (valid until 11/05/2018).

50% discount for children (under 18)

We are very pleased to be holding our retiring collection in aid of the Chichester Cathedral Restoration Trust at the end of our concert, who are currently raising funds for urgent restoration work of the Cathedral’s medieval roof.

The Musicians….

Graham Wili (Conductor)

Conductor Graham Wili returns to Chichester Cathedral to conduct The Creation Haydn, for the first time since the Fauré Requiem, which he conducted to a sell-out audience in the Summer of 2014, and when Ben Wili, his son and ex-head chorister, sang the solo, Pie Jesu. Other than English Philharmonia, Graham is also principal conductor of the London Handel Baroque Orchestra, and in Russia Graham recently conducted Mozart’s Requiem with soloists from the Bolshoi Opera, where he regularly conducts concerts with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra and State Symphony, New Russia Orchestra.

English Philharmonia

English Philharmonia orchestra is in demand both nationally and internationally, having built a world-wide reputation for its high-calibre players and the quality of their performances. Their appearances have taken them from intimate settings to theatres, from cathedrals to concert venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, and we are very pleased to be performing this amazing work with them in Chichester Cathedral.
