English Philharmonia Brass
English Philharmonia Brass is made up of players from English Philharmonia, an orchestra drawn from the finest musicians in the UK, and in demand both nationally and internationally. It is a real pleasure to be singing with them in our Christmas Concerts.
Both concerts will feature favourite traditional and contemporary carols, with audience participation.
The choirs will also be accompanied by English Philharmonia Brass to add a wonderfully festive sound to the performances!
The Matinée Concert
This concert will be performed alongside the excellent Dorset House School Choir.
The Evening Concert
The evening performance, which includes an interval where you can enjoy a glass of wine and a mince pie, features the recently commissioned Christmas Cantata ‘A Winter’s Night’ by Cecilia McDowall (2014). This beautiful festive work consists of five carol arrangements in an original setting, both spirited and contemplative, against a backdrop of brass, organ and percussion. Included amongst the carols is one from our corner of the world, the Sussex Carol, as the work was originally commissioned by the Worthing Choral Society.
As always, The Leconfield Singers are delighted to be conducted by their Musical Director Graham Wili, and accompanied by the renowned organist Philip Scriven.
The Retiring Collection
The choir will be holding its retiring collection in aid of The Friends of St Mary’s at the end of each concert. The Friends of St. Mary’s is a registered charitable trust which aims to generate income, to sustain and enhance the building in its secular capacity, as a civic and cultural centre.
