Announcing our chosen charity for the Messiah concert…!

We’re very happy to announce that our chosen charity for our Messiah concert in May will be….(cue drum roll)….BLISS (Charity No. 1002973), a charity that offers a wide range of free services for the families of premature and sick babies.

There were quite a few suggestions on charities this time, so choosing one was not easy, but with Bliss there is a personal connection with our choir and it is not one that we have collected for before, so we thought it would be a good one to support.  The response from you all was brilliant though, so we will definitely try to use some of the other suggestions for our September/Summer concerts in the future.  We were blown away with how involved and supportive you all are of these extremely deserving local and national causes.

Sponsorship pack is here – and more tour places available!

We’re really pleased to announce that the sponsorship pack for our proposed concert at The Royal Albert Hall in May 2022 is now ready for general distribution.  You can view it HERE – please do just download it and email it to anyone you think might be interested.  Sponsorship can be at all sorts of different levels and all packages are negotiable for variations.

The pack will also be available in professionally printed booklet form next week at choir – please ask Rachel or Ruth.

This will be a document that evolves as plans progress and more information becomes available.  Please do make it clear to everyone you talk to that we are in discussion stages at the moment, and whether the concert goes ahead or not depends on a number of factors, not least on sponsorship 🙂  Having said that, we are really excited about the prospect of singing in such an amazing and prestigious venue, working with world-class musicians and soloists, with the expertise of a proven professional marketing company to help fill up the auditorium!

Announcing our Tour/Autumn Concert programme – we’re looking for soloists!

And now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for…. the Tour and Autumn concert programme is ready for you to look at!!   You can look this page up at any time by visiting our Music Programme & Practice page and selecting the Tour programme.  Graham and the Music Group have come up with a very eclectic mix of Purcell and various other new pieces of music, so there’ll be a lot to learn after the concert, but we know how you all love a challenge!!

As time goes by this page will be filled with useful links and pretty pictures of the scores etc., but in the words of the great Jeremy Paxman as a starter-for-10 it is just the list of items we’ll be singing.

Workshop this Saturday – those choruses won’t sing themselves you know!

As you will hopefully know by now we have our first Messiah workshop on Saturday at the URC, 9.30am to 2.30pm, so we’re hoping to see a large number of you there please!  These workshops are so important as they give Graham 5 hours of concentrated rehearsal time and we usually find we make huge progress after each of them.  There will be a coffee break mid-morning, a brief time to snuffle down a sarnie and then it’s back for another hour or so until 2.30pm.  Tea/coffee will be available thanks to Christine and her team of the day, but please do bring your own refreshments and lunch, or be prepared to pop out and get some!

During this workshop we’ll be going over choruses we’ve already done, as well as learning these new ones:

The Raffle Returns… and Saturday 8th Workshop reminder!

On Wednesday we will be relaunching our Raffle by courtesy of Julia Bellenger and supported by Jeannie!  From now on we will be running the raffle on the first Wednesday of every month, to make it a bit more special and hopefully the prize even bigger!!  The raffle costs £1 a ticket, and when the winning ticket is drawn at the end of the evening, the takings are split between the choir and the winner, so it’s a great opportunity to take part in something that both supports the choir and may result in you pocketing some cash at the end of the evening.  It’s a win-win situation we’re talking about here folks so just remember to break out that piggy bank and bring those coins with you 🙂
