7.20pm start for Sops & Altos, and Prague concert recordings now available!

Those of you at last Wednesdays rehearsal will have heard Graham ask that all non-Semi Chorus Sopranos and Altos come for an early rehearsal for 7.20pm start on Wednesday.  Please note – we will be rehearsing Chorus parts from Pg 95 that are sung with the Semi-Chorus, hence Semi-Chorus singers are NOT required for this slot. Everyone is required as normal for the 8pm rehearsal. You can really help speed things along by practising as much as possible!  Practise audio files are available from our Music Programme & Practise page, or you can go to the page directly by CLICKING THIS LINK.  Scroll down to your voice section and choose our next movement – Praise to the Holiest (I). Tickets will be on sale from 7pm! “…but what about buying tickets?” I hear you say…!  Never known to miss a ticket selling opportunity, Archie has very kindly offered to be at the URC from 7pm.  You can carry on buying tickets for the concert and/or coaches to rehearsals etc.  – there is plenty left of all types of tickets. Prague Tour 2018 – Concert Recordings now available online for members only! Many thanks to Robert Stedall (Liz’s husband) for recording our performances whilst we were on tour in Prague last Summer.  I’m very pleased to say that we now have uploaded the best of the bunch to our Concert Recordings page. You’ll need to select the Summer Tour 2018 tab because the most recent concert was Christmas 2018.  The webpage has audio clips of our previous performances, but it is for members only and so you will need to log...

Great first week of ticket sales all round – and survey results are in!

Well done to everyone – we’ve had a fantastic start to ticket sales for all 3 choirs (and we are in the lead…not that we’re competitive or anything 🙂 ).  This may be in part thanks to Archie’s amazing ticket buying platform, which has speeded up the process significantly compared to 2016, but we’re certainly very encouraged by your enthusiasm for the concert!  The best seats are going fast so don’t leave it too long to ask your friends and family. CD/Recording and Cranmore Coach Survey Results Many, many thanks to all of you who responded to this survey.  I am very pleased to announce that we felt there was enough support in the choir to commission a professional recording of the concert (some 76% of all respondents said they would like to buy a recording).  We will be taking pre-orders for these shortly. In addition, the demand for the Cranmore coach for the final rehearsal on Monday May 6th seemed enough to make it viable, so  you will be able to buy tickets for this coach from next rehearsal also, along with those already on offer for our joint rehearsals in Herts and concert day itself. Programme Advertising Many of you will remember the wonderful job she did last time in 2016 for Verdi’s Requiem, and this year our joint concert poster and programme designer, Jill Glenn, has already started putting together a fabulous programme for our concert. So…..it’s time to start having a good think about businesses you can approach to advertise in our Programme – tariff sheet and details will be available shortly.  The programme will be...

Concert tickets on sale from Weds @ 7.15pm – and reminder for the recording/coach survey!

As you know you can all buy tickets for our performance of The Dream at the Royal Festival Hall already from the Southbank Centre website.  However we have blocked out a whole chunk of really good seats, mainly in the popular Rear Stalls, to sell to our members during our rehearsals. Because this time around the choirs’ Box Office will be a pooled one amongst the 3 choirs (via Ticket Source), Archie has been battling with the issue of giving each choir the same chance to get the best seats regardless of who rehearses first this coming week!  Honestly – the things he has to think of 🙂   So…we ended up reserving choir-specific blocks for this first week of sales, and after that it becomes a free-for-all between all 3 choirs. So the message here is – if you would like to get the best seats available to the choirs, buy your tickets this Wednesday and BE THERE AT 7.15pm!!  After that we will obviously continue selling concert tickets from our pool at each rehearsal (including Saturdays) right up to the main event. Coaches for joint workshops and concert We have so far booked 4 coaches for the following events from central Petworth (Sylvia Beaufoy car park – £15 return for each – whether you are returning or not!): Return to Amersham for Sat 2nd March workshop Return to Berkhamsted for Sat 27th April workshop Return to RFH London for rehearsal/concert on Weds 8th May Return for ‘Supporters’ to RFH London on Weds 8th May Tickets must be bought in advance, and you can start buying tickets for...

Our Soloists, Coach/Concert Recording Survey, Concert photos and our new Social Media editor!

Firstly well done to everyone for the progress we made on the tricky Clods of Brute Earth on Wednesday….I was amazed at how quickly we seemed to get it to such a reasonable standard!  As Graham said, another sectional will take place next week and we’ll try and nail this tricky section – then hopefully the rest of it will be plain sailing 🙂 Keep going over those practise files – the Choralia ones are very useful, but Choraline  offers ones with real voices rather than synthesised, and we have a discount code you can use.  All this info is on our Music Programme & Practise page. We have booked excellent soloists…! We have now recruited some really exciting soloists for the concert and the great news is, subject to final confirmation they will be attending our final rehearsal on Monday 6th May so you can meet/hear them beforehand! More info will be forthcoming (watch Facebook!) as we get further into it but here is a taster… Tenor (Gerontius):  Andrew Kennedy Andrew has a truly great voice and is an amazingly musical singer with real integrity. He will be an exciting addition to the concert.  Andrew has sung principal roles in major opera houses of the world –  indeed there are a great many of his recordings on Spotify and Youtube. and our Mezzo Soprano and Baritone are also top-notch and have both sang many times at the Royal Opera House and top worldwide opera houses. Mezzo Soprano (Angel): Kathleen Wilkinson Baritone (Priest): Keel Watson IMPORTANT: We’d like to gauge your appetite on a couple of things…! Please can you...

It’s about to get more tricky…and I’m not talking Brexit!

We’re doing extremely well and speeding through the score (not that we’re competitive with our sister choirs… 🙂 ) but be warned!  It’s just about to get much more challenging….we are about to do one of the most difficult choruses in the piece from Page 70 to 82 (and then depending on time on to pages 83 through to 91). Now for some, this initial stage of learning the music is their favourite part of the learning process, whilst for others it’s a means to an end.  Either way if you want to feel on top of your game, and also help to move the rehearsals along more quickly, lots of practise is highly recommended!  We are speeding up the learning process with use of sectional rehearsals, but there will always be a certain amount of waiting around when we’re all together while Graham sorts out specific voice sections until we’re all comfortable with the notes, so the more you can do at home to gain confidence, the better the experience will be for everyone. So……….in order to make things as easy as possible for you all, I’m putting the practise links for this next chorus directly in this post.  Just click on your voice section to hear the Choralia practise clips for this chorus below (no logging in required as it’s a public website): CLICK HERE FOR ALL ELGAR – THE DREAM VOICE PRACTISE FILES Alternatively the links below will take you straight to emphasised voice (Level 2) for your chosen voice section: Soprano Alto I Alto II Tenor I Tenor II Bass I Bass II Hints &...
