The clock for your devoted Committee never stops ticking….now that we have started on the music for our Autumn programme, arrangements are underway for the concert!
We will be doing it slightly differently this year…the plan is to start the term on Wednesday 4th September, but not to have the concert until Saturday 28th September. In this 4 weeks, we plan to run the Christmas programme alongside the Autumn Concert programme, with the Christmas programme being rehearsed at 8-9pm and the Autumn Concert at 9-10pm. Any newcomers/members doing Christmas only, can leave at 9pm or stay and join in the singing!
….got a charity in mind?
We’d like your suggestions on local charities to support in the retiring collection. Last year we supported Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Jill Button, but in the past we’ve also supported Canine Partners and Petworth Cottage Nursing Home. If you have any thoughts on this please let us know by emailing us at email@example.com or telling us at one of our rehearsals. We will make a decision in the next few weeks so that we can finalise posters etc.
Workshop Saturday 8th June!
Please mark in your diaries that we have an important Saturday workshop on 8th June. Doors open at 9am for a 9.30am start, at the URC. Hopefully not many of you will have been surprised by the workshop on the 8th June, as it’s been on the Diary Page for a while. Just saying 🙂
Music practise for next Wednesday
Rehearsals are going very well, and next week we will continue with our ‘sectional’ rehearsals, focussing on Agnes Dei and starting Credo, so please do visit our practise page where you’ll find lots of help.
Music for the rest of the programme
A number of you have asked which pieces we’ve performed previously as a choir, so here goes….
Music we’ve covered previously:
- Cantique de Jean Racine – Fauré (ESM)
- O Jesu Christ, meins Lebens Licht – JSA Bach (ESM)
- Geistliches Lied – Brahms (ESM)
- Bogoroditsye Dyevo – Rachmaninov (ESM)
- My Heart is Inditing – Handel (PDF to print)
Music that’s new to us:
- Abendlied – Rheinberger (ESM)
- O Magnum Mysterium – Laurisden (sheet music)
- Missa Brevis in D – Mozart (PDF to print)
- Pie Jesu – Brian Knowles (PDF to print)
Rachel has now stopped taking orders for music via the Music Requirements form, which has now been disabled. If you’d still like to buy your own copy of O Magnum Mysterium, she has 3 or 4 copies left, but there are still quite a few available for hire. Please let her know by emailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org
In the meantime if you’ve yet to collect your music please see Rachel, we still have pre-printed PDFs available. You can see the full Music Programme together with help on practising on our Music Programme & Practise webpage.
On the subject of O Magnum Mysterium, Rachel has found a wonderful interview with it’s composer, Morten Laurisden, about his inspiration for this piece. I’m also personally delighted to learn that he considers a G# from the Altos singing ‘Virgo’ the most important note in the piece 🙂

Amanda has nearly reached her target to make the Wedding Singing viable. She is particularly keen on recruiting a couple more Tenors but really anyone would be most gratefully received!
If you can’t decide/commit at this stage, you would still be very welcome on the day. Just please let Amanda know if you’re coming beforehand. You can email her at email@example.com
