Elgar Walk

If you’re a Facebook or Instagram user you may have noticed that Amanda, our new Social Media rep, has been finding out some fascinating facts about Elgar, and in doing so has discovered that he lived very happily for a few years in Fittleworth!

Inspired by this, Amanda is organising an ‘Elgar Walk’ – a 3 hour circular walk starting and ending at Fittleworth Village Hall, exploring the environment of the Great Man. All funds raised will go towards our choir’s concert fund.

Details as follows:-

Date: Sunday 14th April

Time: 10.30am to roughly 3-4pm (with stops for lunch etc.)

Price: £5 per person

Meeting/Finishing at: Fittleworth Village Hall – plenty of parking along the road.

Note: Toilet facilities may be limited!

  • The walk goes straight past Brinkwells (where he lived) and includes access to The Studio, where Elgar actually composed his last 4 major works (although it is now privately owned so doesn’t necessarily have his furniture!)
  • The Studio is currently owned by the film director that made and directed the 2007 film Elgar’s Tenth Muse on location there (starring James Fox)
  • Dog Friendly
  • Bring sandwiches, water etc

Choir members, friends and family are all welcome.

Elgar concert posters

At the rehearsal last week we were asked for the electronic versions of our posters, so they are available for you to download here.

We will also shortly be sending out an email to all choir members and concert supporters with the Elgar concert poster and information about our other events. Please do forward the email or these posters on to anyone you think might be interested in buying tickets.

Advertisers for the Programme please – Deadline 31st March!

It’s not only Brexit who’s deadline is looming….as we mentioned at the last rehearsal, we do rely on funds from advertising to pay for the programme printing and generally help to fund the concert, so anything any of you can do to help sell advertisement space would be gratefully appreciated!

CLICK HERE to download the Advertising Tariff sheet for forwarding on to potential advertisers.  It also contains instructions on how to place an ad.  If you have any questions please email us on

Promotion – Free concert tickets for Schools!

As mentioned on Wednesday, to encourage local school children to take an interest in classical music, we’re happy to be running a Free Tickets for Schools promotion again.  If you can think of a school that might like to take us up on this offer, CLICK HERE to download the offer letter, which you can send to your contact at the school, or alternatively, you can contact us on so that we can send them all the information about the offer.

Don’t forget our Open Rehearsal!

This will be a great insight into our choir’s rehearsals by your friends and family, and will also give them a taster for the real thing!  You can book tickets by clicking on the poster!

Apologies to Graham for putting this in near the end…but I’m sure you all read to the end of these posts 🙂

So next Wednesday we’ll be doing a sectional again, this time for where the chorus divides, as Chorus 1 in Praise to the Holiest.  Useful links to practise this chorus were in this previous post, or as ever on our Music Programme & Practise page.
